Ugborhen community in Delta agog as court grants bail to Daniel Okpetshagha, four others

The Federal High Court sitting in Asaba, Delta State has granted bail to Mr Daniel Okpetshagha, the President-elect of Ugborhen Community Development Committee in Sapele Local Government Area and four other members of his executive, who were arrested in March 2024 for alleged terrorism, illegal procession of firearms and breach of public peace.

The community erupted in happiness following the release of the five indigenes from the Ogwashi Uku Correctional Centre.

Happiness enveloped the community as the prominent leaders stepped on the soil again after nearly three months in detention.

On March 14, 2024, the President-elect of Ugborhen Community Development Committee in Sapele Local Government Area, Mr Daniel Okpetshagha and four other members of his executive were arrested by the Police on allegations of terrorism, illegal possession of firearms and breach of public peace.

It was gathered that their arrest was a direct fallout of the community election that brought them to power.

After over two months at the Ogwashi Uku Correctional Centre where they were remanded, the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State on June 28, 2024, granted them bail.

Aged men and women, community leaders and youths from Okwukoro, Ojwuoggara, Idumugbako and Okwokpogo Quarters that make up Ugborhen Community came out in large numbers to give a rousing welcome to Mr Daniel Okpetshagha and four members of his executive.

The Ugborhen indegenes lined the popular Elume junction on the Sapele/Benin Expressway chanting and dancing through the entire route to Ugborhen Community.  At the town hall Pa Iboyitie Ikpen, the most senior man of the community and other chiefs and community leaders received them and offered prayers for their safe return.

In a chat with newsmen, Mr Daniel Okpetshagha and others appreciated the entire community for their solidarity, adding that Ugborhen Community is one united family with the capacity to achieve greater things.

Some members of the community expressed thanks to God for the successful return of their sons and prayed for unity and peace in the community.
