There is life after politics, PDP zonal officer urges aspirants

A South-South Zonal officer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Chic Nwaebuni has urged aspirants for various positions in the forthcoming primaries of political parties to shun malicious and hate speeches, noting that there would always be life after politics.

Nwaebuni in an interview with our correspondent lamented the dangerous turn in the electioneering process where some aspirants embark on smear campaigns of calumny rather than sell their manifestos to the electorates.

“This is very dangerous,” he stressed.

He explained that any seasoned politician with genuine intention to serve the people would channel his efforts towards wooing voters and show reasons why he deserves their votes; lamenting that dissipating energy and time on false propaganda, blackmails and hate speeches were the bane of the country’s current political campaigns.

While advising against the dangerous trend of campaign of calumny, Nwaebuni noted that such trend was even more dangerous coming from same political family who ought to be working as one united entity to ensure the victory of the party over others in the general elections.

The Zonal Officer pleaded with aspirants to shun the attitude of pulling down their fellow aspirants but should rather see themselves as partners in progress whose vision and mission centred on advancing and improving the country and lives of her citizens.

Stressing the need for all to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, Nwaebuni averred that in every elective contest, there would always be one winner; others are not losers but partners in progress.

When the consultation and campaign are centred on agenda and ideologies without hate and blackmailing of anyone, others who did not emerge flagbearers should be able to embrace the persons who emerged and work together for the bigger victory ahead.

“But when much time is spent bickering, insulting and blackmailing, embracing one another thereafter becomes more difficult and working for bigger victory becomes hard.

“I am appealing that as we move into the party primaries proper, aspirants and supporters should desist from mudslinging and approach the contest with the spirit of sportsmanship.

Those who did not emerge flagbearers should embrace one another, and see themselves as brave giants. You can never be a pushover in any political engagement,” he pleaded.
