By Wilson Macaulay

In a resounding affirmation of purposeful leadership, unity, and institutional stability, members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel, have unanimously passed a vote of explicit confidence in the Executive Committee (Exco) led by its Chairman, Comrade Nelson Agbajor, even as the Chapel formally constituted its Election and Credentials Committee ahead of the forthcoming chapel elections in March.

The twin decisions, taken at a well-attended and orderly Congress of the Chapel today, February 10, 2026, underscored members’ deep satisfaction with the performance, transparency, and inclusiveness that have characterised the Agbajor administration since its assumption of office.

Moving the motion for the vote of confidence, Comrade Victor Otuya, a member of the Chapel, lauded Comrade Agbajor and his team for providing steady, visionary, and people-centred leadership, noting that the current Exco has strengthened professional cohesion, improved welfare consciousness, enhanced engagement with stakeholders, and restored a sense of dignity to the Chapel’s affairs.

According to Victor Otuya, the Agbajor-led Exco has demonstrated a rare blend of administrative competence and humility, fostering peace within the Chapel while ensuring that the interests of correspondents in Sapele and its environs are consistently protected and projected.

Seconding the motion, Comrade Wilson Macaulay and other speakers, including Comrade Malcolm Tagbarha, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, Comrade Peace Caleb, and others, described the confidence vote as well-deserved, stressing that the Exco has operated an open-door policy, promoted ethical journalism, and maintained cordial relationships with government institutions, security agencies, and the general public.

When the motion was put to a voice vote, it received overwhelming approval, with members applauding loudly in endorsement of the leadership.

Similarly, in line with NUJ constitutional provisions and democratic best practices, the Chapel also constituted a credible Election/Credentials Committee to midwife the forthcoming Chapel election slated for March 2026.

The committee is saddled with the responsibility of screening aspirants, verifying credentials, setting election guidelines, and conducting a transparent, free, and fair electoral process in line with the NUJ Constitution.

The constitution of the committee was greeted with widespread approval, as members expressed confidence in its capacity to deliver a process that would reflect the will of the Chapel without rancour or controversy.

Members of the committee include Comrade Hope Akaezue as Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Omoko as Secretary, and Comrade Victor Otuya as member.

On his part, Comrade Nelson Agbajor expressed profound gratitude to members for the trust reposed in his leadership, describing the gesture as both humbling and motivating.

“This vote of confidence is not just for me, but for the entire Exco and for the spirit of unity that defines the Sapele Correspondents’ Chapel,” Agbajor said. “It challenges us to do even more in upholding professionalism, protecting members’ welfare, and defending the integrity of journalism.”

He assured members that the Exco would continue to provide support to the Election/Credentials Committee and ensure that the electoral process remains transparent, peaceful, and credible.

Responding, the Chairman of the Election/Credentials Committee, Comrade Hope Akaezue, while speaking on behalf of the committee, thanked members of Congress for the opportunity given to her and her team to serve, noting that the committee would work strictly within the provisions of the NUJ Constitution.
