Some chiefs, women and youths from Agbarho Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta  State on Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against alleged reinstatement of their dethroned monarch, Chief Samson Ogugu.

The placard carrying protesters marched round major streets of Agbarho Kingdom chanting solidarity songs.

Speaking to newsmen, the third kingmaker of Agbarho Kingdom, Chief Liberty Evwen Emaka said the protest was against an alleged reinstatement of their dethroned king, Chief Samson Ogugu, which according to him was against the wishes of the Agbarho people.

Chief Emaka noted that, Chief Samson Ogugu was dethroned inline with the custom and traditiom of Agbarho people following his misconduct.

He added that, HRM William Onokpite was crowned as the Osuvie of Agbarho Kingdom to replace the dethroned King.

Chief Emaka noted that since HRM William Onokpite took over the reigns of the kingdom, the kingdom has experienced tremendous peace and progress.

He further said any attempt to impose the dethroned monarch on the people will lead to chaos that will jeopardize the prevailing peace in the kingdom.

Chairman of Agbarho Council of Chiefs, Chief Osiobe Okotie said HRM William Onokpite is the recognised and authentic Osuvie of Agbarho Kingdom and imposing any other person as the Osuvie against the wish of Agbarho people may lead to crisis.

He appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and relevant authorities to intervene in the issue to prevent breakdown of law and order in Agbarho Kingdom.

Others who spoke pledged their unalloyed support for HRM William Onokpite and his council of chiefs led by Chief Osiobe Okotie.
