Practitioners of Complementary and Alternative Medicine converge in Lagos for 2-Day West African Regional Conference

A 2-day West African Regional Conference on Integrative Health has been held with a call on Integrative Health Care Practitioners to continue to push for the integration and collaboration of alternative medicine practice to promote the profession and take it to its rightful place in Nigeria.

The West African Regional Conference with the theme “Integration of Health Care System for Regional Development” took place in Lagos State and had in attendance practitioners of Complementary and Alternative Medicine across the globe.

Practitioners of Complementary and alternative medicine during the  Conference appealed to the federal government to identify with them owing to their contributions to the health sector.

National President of the Nigerian Union of Practitioners of Alternative and Complementary Medicine NUPCAM Professor Ernest Ugo represented by Dr Baderewa Adewale told all present to work together to actualize the goals and ideas of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Professor Ugo noted that much more can be achieved when practitioners of Complementary and Alternative Medicine form a common front in the interest of projecting their profession.

Welcoming Guests to the regional conference National President of Integrative medicine Practitioners of Nigeria Dr Johnson Elechi reminded practitioners of the daunting task ahead of them stressing the need to cater for their health just as they do their patients.

Sole Administrator of the Federal College of Alternative Medicine FEDCAM Dr Azeez Aderemi represented by Dr Ibrahim Afonja conveyed some of the achievements of FEDCAM since its inception noting that more efforts are in motion in its desire to continue to take practice of Complementary and Alternative Medicine to the next level.

Similarly, the Representative of the Registrar of Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board asked practitioners of Complementary and Alternative Medicine to always subject their work to scientific research this she said would go a long way to send the right signal to the Government and other key stakeholders.

A Special feature at the conference was the eleventh convocation ceremony of the prestigious Havilah Holistic Medicine Academy with the Dean of the institution Professor Joseph Akpile giving an insight into the progress of the institution and its projection of becoming a full flesh University in the near future.

The two-day West African Regional Conference on Integrative Health featured exhibitions and inputs of internationally recognized Health Experts from India, Ghana, Malaysia amongst others.

The two-day West African Regional Conference on Integrative Health climaxed with the unanimous decision of all practitioners of Complementary and Alternative Medicine to continue to push for the integration and collaboration of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practice anywhere they find themselves.
