Ebri Ubi, the police inspector who recently shot dead a popular phone seller, Mr Onyeka Ibe, in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

Inspector Ubi is also expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow Wednesday for the crime.

Mr Onyeka Ibe until his untimely death was known to own a shop at Ogbeogonogo market on Nnebisi Road, Asaba.

Inspector Ubi, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, allegedly shot dead Mr Onyeka Ibe while on Stop and Search duty with his team along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.

The ugly incident drew wide condemnation from the general public including the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, who ordered his arrest and detention.

Not left in condemning the killing was the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who called on the police to launch a thorough investigation into the killing and appealed to residents of Asaba not to take laws into their hands but allow the police to conduct an in-depth probe into the circumstances that led to the sad incident.

In a terse message on Tuesday afternoon, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, said, “INSPR Ubi Ebri has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court tomorrow Wednesday 19th April 2023. The court will be determined tomorrow.”
