A prominent Ijaw leader from Delta state, Chief Julius Babogha, has urged Governors of Southern States of Nigeria to match with action their recent ban on open grazing in their states.

Recall that the governors had in a communique at the end of their meeting held in Asaba on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, announced their resolution to ban open grazing and movement of cattle by foot across the region as part of measures to check incursion of armed herders and banditry.

But, speaking with NewsNet on Thursday, Chief Babogha, who is the GMD/CEO of Babsfield Corporate Ventures Limited and Tamfel Global Resources, noted that as laudable as the resolution reached by the Southern Governors in dealing with the security challenges now inherent in open grazing; it will amount to nothing if it is not backed by action.

Babogha said: “The decision was a good one but, what we are saying is that they should match it with action.

“It shouldn’t just be mere talking and they don’t do anything. They should go ahead “no matter whose ox is gored”. They should disregard them.

“Your state is your state, they should die for a course that they know is genuine to their people. That is why they are elected governors of the states.

“They should protect the interest of their people and the lives of their people.

“So, it is a nice thing they have done but, they should back it with action.”
