Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated the newly promoted Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Erivwode, charging him to continue to distinguish himself among his colleagues and aspire to the highest office in the Nigeria Police Force.
The governor, represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, gave the charge at Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area, during a grand reception organised by the Eku Committee of Friends and the entire community in honour of Chief Erivwode.
It was a colourful ceremony at the Eku community town hall as family, friends, traditional rulers, and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the historic promotion. In attendance were the Ovie of Oruarivie of Abraka Kingdom, Ojeta II; representatives of the Ovie of Agbon Kingdom, Ukori I; the Ovie of Umiaghwa Abraka Kingdom, Avwaeke I; members of the Eku Traditional Council; as well as top military and police chiefs.
Governor Oborevwori praised Erivwode for his dedication, professionalism, and hard work, which earned him the prestigious rank, urging him to remain steadfast despite the challenges of policing. He also encouraged him to always remember his roots and give back to the Eku community.
Delivering an exhortation from Psalm 45:7, the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Christian Ideh, described Erivwode’s elevation as divine, highlighting his unwavering commitment to his faith and service to God.
Chairman of the Eku Committee of Friends, Chief Paul Okene, described the event as historic, noting that Erivwode is only the second indigene of Eku to attain the rank of Commissioner of Police. He hailed him as brilliant, hardworking, and dogged, adding that his success would inspire younger generations.
In his response, CP Erivwode expressed gratitude to God and the Eku community for the honour. He also paid glowing tribute to the late AIG Ejiro Akpowowo, the highest-ranking police officer from Eku, whom he described as a role model and source of inspiration.
The highlights of the event included the citation of CP Erivwode by the President General of Eku Community, Olorogun Dudu Akpotor, and the presentation of his portrait by the governor’s representative, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo. Guests were also entertained by cultural performances from the Eku traditional dance troupe.
