Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honoured as the overall Governor of the Year 2025 by New Telegraph Newspapers Limited in recognition of what the organisers described as his remarkable infrastructural achievements and transformative leadership in the state.

The award was presented at the New Telegraph Awards/Dinner Night 2025 held at the Ballroom of the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lagos, on Friday. Governor Oborevwori was represented at the event by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme.

According to the organisers, the Delta governor was selected for “astonishing even his most ardent critics” through massive infrastructural development recorded across the state in less than three years of his administration.

Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of New Telegraph, Mr. Ayodele Aminu, in his welcome address, explained that the 2025 award recipients emerged after a rigorous and transparent selection process across key sectors of the nation’s economy.

He noted that the awards were designed to celebrate excellence, accountability and impactful leadership.

Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, who chaired the ceremony, congratulated the honourees and urged them to view the awards as a call to greater responsibility and service to the nation.

Highlighting Oborevwori’s achievements, the organisers noted that Delta State has witnessed an unprecedented expansion of its road infrastructure under his leadership.

In less than three years, the administration has embarked on over 3,500 kilometres of roads and approximately 2,000 kilometres of drainage projects.

Several urban and rural communities across the state are undergoing rapid transformation, with ongoing construction of roads, bridges and flyovers aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic activities.

The governor’s urban renewal initiatives have significantly enhanced accessibility and living conditions in many parts of the state.

Speaking to journalists after receiving the award on behalf of the governor, Sir Monday Onyeme dedicated the honour to God and the people of Delta State.

He described the recognition as a strong endorsement of the administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, noting that the award affirms that the administration is faithfully implementing the mandate given to it by Deltans.

“This recognition clearly shows that we are on the right track. The infrastructure is visible. In education, human capital development, healthcare delivery, youth and sports development, we are making steady progress. Deltans can see the impact of this government,” Onyeme stated.

He assured that the award would further spur the administration to intensify development efforts across all sectors, promising that more projects would be delivered in the months ahead.

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, Dr Andrew Oru, the Urhobo Social Club, Lagos, Commissioners and other top government officials, attended the ceremony.

The New Telegraph Governor of the Year 2025 award adds to the growing list of recognitions earned by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, underscoring his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development, inclusive governance and sustainable growth.
