NTA’s Ladi Bala now leads Nigeria women journalists

Ladi Bala of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) has emerged the National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).

NAWOJ which is the women wing of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ was established 31 years ago to increase women’s access and leadership in the media.

Bala of NTA Yola on Saturday defeated three other contestants during the association’s triannual delegates conference held in Minna, Niger state to emerged the 10th National President of NAWOJ.

She polled 439 votes in the keenly contested election to beat her closest challenger, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim of the Adamawa State Ministry of Information, who polled 251 votes, while Chindaba Danjuma and Ruth Abubakar polled 85 and 48 votes respectively.

Other elected members of the new national executive include, Lilian Ogbano, Deputy Vice President, Helen Udofia, Secretary, Assistance Secretary, Yinka Bode-Are, Treasurer, Fatima Rasheed, Internal Auditor, Dorothy Abellaga and Financial Secretary, Adeola Adekunle.

Bala in her acceptance speech, returned all the glory to God Almighty for her victory.

She called on all members to ”mend fences and close gaps”, now that the elections were over.

Bala emerged the 10th National President of NAWOJ, after two successful tenures of 6years by her predecessor, Ifeyinwa Omowole, who happens to be the first national president of the association to serve two terms in office.
