A foremost Niger Delta leaders, Dr. Julius Babogha, on Sunday condemned the Water Resources Bill urging the Senate and the House of Representatives not to pass the controversial bill.

The Niger Delta leader, Dr. Babogha, who made this statement while speaking to newsmen in Warri Delta state, said the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, not to pass the bill.

Dr. Babogha called on prominent Nigerians including Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, Human Rights lawyer, Femi Falana and others to reject in its entirety the Water Resources Bill since it is against the interest of the people.

Babogha said, “I have read through the Water Resources Bill and sincerely advise senate and house of representatives not to not give it a thought, appealing to both the Senate and the House of Representatives not to rush in passing the Water Resources Bill as it will do the country no good.

“The Water Resources Bill was first introduced in 2016 and later to 2017 and it met its waterloo before it was reintroduced in 2020 that the Northerners legislators are lobbying seriously to see the bill go through the third reading in the house, but saying that the bill will also hit the rock.”

Speaking further, Dr Babogha advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be careful over the Water Resources bill to avoid inciting mostly the Niger Delta people and appeal to Buhari to discourage both national assemblies from the passing of the bill.
