By Ambrose Ologide

Flooding caused by the heavy downpour in Uvwie and Warri South Local Government Areas on Monday, September 12, 2022, impeded vehicular movements on some major roads in both areas at the time of filing this report.

The affected roads were: the ever-busy NPA Warri/Effurun Road by Bon Hotel, Prodeco, Refinery Road, Jakpa Road (after New Layout Junction) and Agric road all in Uvwie Local Government Area.

The roads that were waterlogged in Warri South Local Government Area included Newport, Ogunu Road by Eagles Square, Eboh Link road, Ginuwa by JJC among other areas.

The said Ginuwa Road in Otovwodo (Agbassa)was a no-go area even several hours after the rain subsided

The waterlogged road compelled desperate motorists to navigate through the axial deplorable road of Igbi street.

While unfortunate commercial tricycle (Keke) riders that risked passing the flooded road, sank in it.

A concerned resident of the area, Mr Joshua Akpobor, who spoke to newsmen lamented that the said road had been bedevilled with flood even when there was no rain.

He stated that flood had earned the road the unenviable name of ‘River Ginuwa’ by motorists, mostly Keke riders

He, therefore, appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the construction of a massive drainage system from the Bowen Avenue Bridge via Otovwodo (Agbassa) community, Ukpokiti Street, Mowoe Road to Ginuwa road.

He stated that the construction of his suggested drainage system will put an end to the problem of flooding in the area.
