DTHA Staff Training: Clerk urges trainees to develop subordinates

A two-day staff capacity development programme for officers on grade level 12 and above in the Delta State House of Assembly has ended in Asaba with a charge on the participants to help develop their subordinates in office.

The Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs Lyna Ocholor and the facilitator of the programme, Pastor Afolabi Adun, gave the charge in their closing remarks at the end of the intensive training programme.

The staff capacity development programme, according to the Clerk of the House was aimed at enhanced efficiency, productivity and service delivery in the state legislature.

Courses such as understanding leadership and management, personal effectiveness and productivity, delegation, work ethics and professionalism, service delivery team building and team work as well as time management were thought participants.

The State Assembly’s senior officers were also taken through other topics including goal setting, people management, entrepreneurship and safety and security in the workplace.

The Clerk of the House, Mrs Lyna Ocholor stated that the staff have been repositioned for better performance and expressed appreciation to the leadership of the House for the staff capacity development programme.

Mrs Ocholor challenged the participants to put to good use added knowledge gathered during the two days programme as much was expected from them.

She said the Delta State Assembly is committed to maintaining high standards in its primary assignment and other oversight functions.

The facilitator, Pastor Afolabi Adun, a Training Consultant, urged the officers to help develop their subordinates to encourage perfection in the state legislature.

He commended them for their apt attention and seriousness all through the duration of the programme and expressed optimism that they will put to maximum use the knowledge acquired.

Some of the participants interviewed said they learnt a lot from the programme and expressed their gratitude to the Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori and his team of management for the capacity development programme.

They stated that the benefits of training and retraining can not be overemphasized and assured of enhanced service delivery in their work schedules.

The Speaker had while declaring the workshop open enjoined the staff to brace up to the challenges of the financial autonomy granted the state legislature.
