Three staff of Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Asaba, who were monitoring long vehicular queues occasioned by the scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol were on Monday brutally assaulted by the men of the Nigerian Police at the North West Filling Station on Mariam Banagida Way, Asaba.

The team of pressmen, led by the Manager News and Current Affairs, Comrade Eddy Akpati Ogude were held hostage by the men of the Nigerian Police Force, who were angered by the press team’s monitoring of shady activities at the filling station.

Some of the police officers, who chased one of the Journalists, Miss Eunice Emeyazi, assaulted her, destroyed her phone and video camera while she was able to escape with bodily injuries.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of the police to The Pointer, Miss Emeyazia revealed that it took the effort of a good-spirited citizen, who witnessed her being brutalised, quickly opened his moving vehicle for her to escape.

Emeyazia was still whittling in pain due to the injuries she sustained, which included; bruised face, swollen head and a broken wrist.

She revealed that she has been to Asaba Specialist Hospital to receive treatment and underwent an X-ray on the broken wrist.

While saying that she was asked to report to the hospital the next day for further treatment, she disclosed that as soon as her office, DBS Asaba, was notified of the attack on the press team, the General Manager of the station, Mr Frank Osabohen placed a call to the Command headquarters in Asaba to register the complaint.

She said that fortunately, the leader of the team, Comrade Ogude and the other member of staff were released unhurt.
