The Rivers State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has revoked the ₦134 billion contract earlier awarded for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt.
The project, initially approved during the period of emergency administration under Vice Admiral Ikot Ete Ibas (rtd), was being executed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
At its meeting, the Council resolved to terminate the contract and directed CCECC to refund the ₦20 billion mobilisation fee previously released to the company.
In the same session, the Council approved the constitution of a six-member committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu, to evaluate and recommend the establishment of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state.
The initiative is aimed at improving the conduct of external examinations for students in Rivers State.
Prof. Odu, who also heads the State Flood Management Committee, was further instructed to scale up efforts to curb flooding across the state.
The Council appealed to residents to avoid dumping waste in drainages and to cooperate with relevant agencies involved in the ongoing cleanup and flood prevention operations.
