The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping operation in the Upper Agbarho area of the state, recovering high-calibre firearms and live ammunition from suspected kidnappers during a coordinated night operation.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Edafe Bright, who said the breakthrough followed actionable intelligence received by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) indicating that a group of armed suspects had converged around a bush path in Upper Agbarho, allegedly preparing for a kidnap operation.
Acting on the intelligence, CP-SAT operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson and working in collaboration with local community vigilantes, entered the area at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2026.
The team discreetly cordoned off an uncompleted building identified as the suspects’ hideout.
Upon sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire. The police responded, forcing the hoodlums to flee the scene with gunshot injuries, abandoning their weapons and other incriminating items.
Items recovered include one FNC rifle loaded with a live round of ammunition and one pump-action gun with thirty-two rounds of live cartridges.
All exhibits have been secured, while an intensive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, commended the CP-SAT operatives for their bravery and effective use of intelligence, reiterating that the Command remains resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate in the state.
He warned that Delta State will continue to be hostile to kidnapping, armed robbery, and all forms of violent crime, while urging residents to support the police with timely and credible information.
