The Delta State Ministry of Technical Education has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Principal of Sapele Technical College, Sapele, Mrs Rosemary Itawansa (17 PEG), following what it described as serious administrative and disciplinary infractions.
The decision followed a monitoring exercise carried out by the Ministry on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, to evaluate compliance with the resumption of second-term academic activities at the institution.
Findings from the visit reportedly exposed multiple violations of approved standards and procedures.
According to the Ministry, officials arrived at the school at about 7:26 a.m. and observed the absence of security personnel at the main gate, while the school environment was overgrown and poorly maintained.
The inspection also uncovered unauthorised activities within the premises, including farming and wood milling operations.
Further allegations include the collection of exorbitant and unapproved fees from students, refusal to comply with approved teaching guidelines for trade courses, weak administrative supervision, and the alleged aiding and abetting of “ghosting” among National Youth Service Corps members posted to the college.
The Ministry stated that the Principal had previously received several verbal warnings over her conduct in managing the school but failed to take corrective action.
It also recalled a formal directive dated January 19, 2024, which posted her to Model Technical College, Obiaruku, an instruction that was reportedly ignored.
A subsequent query and response, in which political engagements were cited as reasons for non-compliance, were also referenced.
In line with established disciplinary procedures, the Ministry approved the redeployment of Mrs Itawansa from Sapele Technical College to the Ministry of Technical Education in Asaba for further posting.
She has been directed to hand over to the most senior teacher at the college and report for duty at the Ministry on Monday, January 19, 2026.
The Ministry reaffirmed its resolve to uphold discipline, accountability, and professionalism across all technical colleges in the state, warning that acts of insubordination and administrative misconduct will not be tolerated.
