The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on traffic violations, prosecuting dozens of offenders through mobile courts in a coordinated push to restore order and safety on the state’s roads.
The enforcement drive, carried out in partnership with designated judges and magistrates, saw a total of 68 traffic offenders arraigned and fined across mobile courts in Warri and Asaba, as well as at the Magistrate Court in Okwe.
Offences ranged from unauthorised use of number plates and driving against traffic to operating vehicles without registration numbers, obstructing roads, and driving without valid license.
Authorities also flagged the illegal use of sirens and the covering of number plates as serious infractions linked to criminal activity.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said the operation reflects a broader commitment to enforce traffic laws and improve public safety.
“This enforcement is part of a deliberate strategy to address the rising trend of traffic violations and ensure the safety and security of all residents,” Edafe stated.
He emphasised that vehicles with unregistered or concealed number plates are frequently used to evade law enforcement and perpetrate crimes.
“It is important to note that such vehicles are often deployed to commit offences and bypass security checks. This is why strict enforcement has become necessary,” he added.
All offenders were penalised in line with the Delta State Traffic Management Law and the National Road Traffic Regulations, reinforcing the legal consequences of non-compliance.
The Command is also strengthening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency to ensure sustained enforcement and coordinated action.
“We are deepening synergy with relevant agencies to clamp down on violators, reduce traffic-related incidents, and enhance safety across the state,” Edafe noted.
He urged motorists to obey traffic rules, properly register their vehicles, and carry valid driver’s licenses at all times.
“The Command maintains a zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations and will continue to take decisive action to safeguard lives and maintain order on our roads,” he said.
