Delta monarchs disown Asagba of Asaba over summit on guber zoning formula

Delta State Traditional Rulers Council has dissociated itself from the proposed Delta Monarchs Summit to deliberate on power rotation in Delta State ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council and Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujakpuerou, Orhue 1 made the clarification while fielding questions from Journalists at the end of the councils meeting in Asaba.

Recall that the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chike Edozien two weeks ago proposed in no distant time to host a one-day summit of traditional rulers in the state on governorship zoning formula following the heat being generated on which senatorial district or ethnic group should produce the Governor of the state come 2023.

But, Orhue 1, while fielding questions from newsmen explained that Traditional Rulers were apolitical adding that there was no basis for the convocation of such summit.

Flanked by the 1st Vice Chairman pere SP Luke Kalanama VIII and 2nd Vice Chairman, Agbogidi Henry Kikachukwu 1, the Orodje disclosed that the Council was unaware of such move adding that the highly exalted Traditional Rulers Institution should not be dragged into politics.

The Chairman however assured that the Traditional Rulers will continue to work and cooperate with any Government in power for the growth, peace and development of Delta State.

The Council advised Royal Fathers against the conferment of chieftaincy titles on persons of questionable characters in the society following the submission of internet fraud report by the 2nd vice Chairman of the Council.

The Council enjoined members to tackle the menace of internet fraud through awareness campaigns and urged the government to develop a zero-tolerance policy to rid the state of internet fraud and other forms of criminality.

The Delta Monarchs thanked the state Governor for the Anti-grazing law and for setting up a committee to enforce the law.

The Council disclosed resolution to set up 5 committees including general-purpose and welfare, Ethics and privileges, Alternative dispute resolution and security, adding that the development was sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past council.
