Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, has urged Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) in the 25 Local Government Areas of the state to sustain efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery and shun things that could portray them in a negative light.

Mrs Ezewu who gave the charge in Asaba during her maiden meeting with CIEs noted that the CIEs forum provided a platform for members to share information, ideas and harmonise strategies towards quality service delivery.

The Secondary Education Commissioner reminded them that as ambassadors of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, they should display a good sense of responsibility and best practices in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Mrs Ezewu, who recalled that the Zenith Bank/Delta Principals and Headmasters’ Cup Football Competition was around the corner, admonished them to participate actively in sporting activities of schools within their LGAs.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Augustine Ede Oghoro, told them that since schools have resumed, they should abstain from collecting unapproved levies.

Earlier, the host Chief Inspector of Education (CIE), Emiliana Djoma, said that it was her first time to host the members of the forum from the 25 Local Government Areas, adding that she was overwhelmed with joy that her hosting coincided with the birth anniversary of the Commissioner for Secondary Education.

Djoma, who decried insecurity in schools and incessant cases of destruction of school property, noted that with the collaboration of the relevant stakeholders in government and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), the issue was being tackled.

She described the existing good working relationship between stakeholders in Oshimili South and her office as a deliberate strategy to enhance and promote educational commitment and development in the area.

The Chairman of the CIEs Forum, Prince Alekwe Theophilus, lauded the committee and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for carrying them along in the scheme of things, saying that Mrs Ezewu was an accomodating woman.

Highpoints of the ceremony was the presentation of a birthday cake and card to the Secondary Education Commissioner by the Forum of the Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) in the state.
