The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Housing has given residents of the Junior Staff Quarters, Asaba one month notice to pull down all makeshift structures, fence and extensions in their buildings.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ferguson Onwo gave the directive when he led other members of the committee and the management of the Delta Development and Property Authority DDPA on an inspection visit following information about crisis which erupted in the estate.

The crises according to reports was caused by a resident of the quarters who attacked, and injured officials of the DDPA with a machete and destroyed their vehicles when they came to inspect the estate recently.

Hon Onwo who represents Isoko South two constituency said it was wrong for residents of the quarters to encroach into lands belonging to the DDPA with construction of fences, makeshift structures and building extensions.

He said the estate has its fixed design when it was constructed and anything that would contravene government’s plans for the quarters was unacceptable, even as he frowned at the attack on staff of the DDPA by some residents.

The lawmaker said government in partnership with the private sector will embark on the construction of a shopping mall and a sick bay in the estate which would be completed in the next six months, to provide a conducive environment for occupants to do their shopping.

Hon Onwo said that the Hights Estate being constructed inside the Junior Staff Quarters, which has six two-bedroom and three-bedroom flats in a block would be completed next year and it would be given out at affordable prices.

He appreciated Governor Ifeanyi to his foresight in building a school inside the Junior Staff Quarters, explaining that it would enable residents of the estate have access to quality education at their doorstep.

The Chairman, of the Delta Development and Property Authority DDPA, Mr Emmanuel Utomi who conducted the lawmakers around the quarters said that the assault on staff of the Agency has been reported to the police and is currently under investigation.

He said the newly constructed Height Estate which will have one hundred and twenty flats in the first phase will parade state of the art facilities, such as evacuation free sewage which will be converted into cooking gas for occupants.

Other members of the House Committee were the member representing Oshimili North and the Chief Whip of the House, Honourable Pat Ajudua, and the member representing Udu, Honourable Jite Uviejitobor.
