The Chairman of Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Chukwuemeke Emetulu has restated the commitment of the 8th Delta Assembly to ensuring that the state’s education sector meets the yearnings and aspirations of Deltans.

Emetulu stated this at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South and Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba, Oshimili South, in continuation of his Committee’s oversight visits to Educational Institutions in Delta State.

Accompanied by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Benson Obire and other members including Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Emmanuel Sinebe, Matthew Omonade, Bridget Anyafulu, Chukwudi Dafe and Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, the Lawmaker who represents Ndokwa West, said education is key to all-round development.

At Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Emetulu expressed satisfaction with the level of infrastructural development in the institution and praised the efforts of the State Government and other stakeholders, including Management and the Students Union in achieving the lofty goals.

He said legislative oversight of MDAs is a constitutional duty to among other things seek first-hand information on the use of financial appropriations as well as ensure quality, transparency, accountability and standards.

Emetulu stressed that the State Assembly was poised to ensure positive results in all sectors of the economy, stating that Delta State is educationally driven.

The lawmaker alongside members of the Committee inspected some completed and ongoing projects at the Polytechnic, where he commended the management team of the Institution for their vision of making the Polytechnic technologically focused.

At the Dennis Osadebe University, Asaba, Hon Emetulu expressed optimism that the University would continue to experience rapid growth and development, even though it was established less than four years ago.

While calling on the management of the University to take more proactive steps in improving its IGR, the Lawmaker stated that every Institution or organization at the early stage of establishment is bound to face some challenges.

He therefore urged the management to synergize with the Commissioner for Higher Education in solving some of its challenges, even as he assured maximum support from the state legislature.

The Emetulu Committee also undertook a guided tour of some completed and ongoing projects in the University, including the various TETfund and CBN projects as well as others executed by the state government.

The state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof Johnbull Tonukari, appreciated the Lawmakers for their commitment to ensuring standard infrastructural growth and academic excellence in higher institutions in the state.

Earlier, Rector of the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku, Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, and the Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebe University, Professor Ben Oghojafor highlighted some of the achievements recorded so far in the institutions as well as the challenges facing them and appealed for government intervention in mitigating some of the challenges.
