The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that elections will be conducted in the restored Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II and Isoko North II State Constituencies during the 2027 General Elections.

The confirmation was made during a stakeholders’ engagement convened by the electoral commission in Asaba, following the Federal High Court’s judgments restoring the three state constituencies.

Reacting to the development, Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, described the decision as a significant victory for justice, democratic representation and the rule of law.

In a statement on Friday, Dafinone said the restoration of the constituencies marked the successful conclusion of years of sustained advocacy by concerned Deltans and stakeholders committed to correcting what he described as a longstanding injustice.

“A key outcome of the meeting was INEC’s confirmation that elections will be conducted in the three restored constituencies during the 2027 General Elections, in line with the judgments of the Federal High Court,” the senator stated.

He noted that the restoration was achieved through the combined efforts of stakeholders, judicial intervention and sustained representations made to the electoral commission.

“The restoration of these constituencies is the culmination of sustained advocacy by well-meaning Deltans and the collective efforts of all stakeholders committed to correcting this longstanding injustice. The several representations made by my office in 2025 and 2026 formed part of these efforts, which, together with the decisive judicial pronouncements, paved the way for this outcome,” Dafinone said.

The lawmaker commended INEC for taking steps to implement the court judgments and acknowledged the contributions of individuals and groups who worked towards the restoration of the constituencies.

“I commend INEC for this important step and express my sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making this restoration a reality. I also salute the resilience and unwavering pursuit of justice by the people of Ughelli South and Ethiope East,” he added.

Dafinone congratulated the people of Abraka (Ethiope East II), Ughelli South II and Isoko North II on what he described as a historic milestone, expressing optimism that they would fully participate in the 2027 General Elections.

He said the development strengthens democratic representation and ensures that the affected communities will once again have the opportunity to elect their representatives into the Delta State House of Assembly in accordance with the Federal High Court judgments.
