The grand finale of the Season 6 edition of the Bashorun Askia Foundation Schools Debate Competition is scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at the Redeemed Men Fellowship Hall, RCCG, Chevron Clinic Road, off NPA Expressway, Warri, Delta State.
The contest for the first and second positions will feature Army Day Secondary School, Effurun, represented by Kolawole Faith and Okere Ifeanyi, going head-to-head with Bedford College, Igbogidi, represented by Oghenemega Yuletide and Ohhenekome Gilt. They will debate the topic: “Artificial Intelligence: Is It Doing More Harm Than Good in the Educational Sector?”
The third-place debate will feature Deen Foundation Schools, Ekpan (Uvwie LGA), represented by Musa Jemila and Taofeek Sumaya, against First Baptist Schools, Warri (Warri South LGA), represented by Opone Rachel and Emmanuel Treasure.
They will engage on the motion: “Who Is to Blame for Nigeria’s Poor Education System — Government or Teachers?”
At the close of the competition, the champion school will receive ₦250,000, the second-place school ₦150,000, while the third-place school will go home with ₦100,000.
The final event will be graced by the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. (Comr.) Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, among other distinguished guests.
Sixteen secondary schools participated in the earlier stages of the competition, from which the finalists emerged.
The Bashorun Askia Foundation Schools Debate Competition, sponsored solely by Bashorun Askia Ogieh, former Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has grown into one of the most anticipated intellectual competitions in Delta State.
Askia has continued to sponsor the program as part of his long-standing commitment to advancing educational development among young people.
