Delta State Government has embarked on a special cleanup exercise in the major cities of the state ahead of the yuletide.

A member of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Mr Mofe Edema, on Monday while supervising the exercise in Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts urged members of the public to report under-performing PSPs in the area for necessary action.

Edema inspected a stretch just a few meters away from the popular Niger Cat junction on the NPA Expressway notorious for the dumping of refuse in Uvwie Local Government Area.

He stressed the need for the citizenry to assist the state government in achieving a cleaner and healthy environment by imbibing a positive attitude towards the disposal of their refuse.

This, according to him is very essential as people who live in a dirty environment particularly close to unauthorised refuse dumps pay dearly for their health with its attendant effect on their finances.

As part of his supervision in Delta Central, Edema was also at another long stretch of refuse dump before and around the popular Agbarho bridge in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

From Okumgba Avenue road to Deco junction, he supervised the clearing of the median of the road.

He disclosed the special cleanup across the major cities in the state which will last for one week would involve picking up debris on roads after the evacuation of heaps of refuse to give the cities the needed facelift to herald the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Mr Mofe Edema disclosed further that the Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Hon. Emmanuel Chinye, currently leads the team supervising the cleanup in Delta North Senatorial District with the Benin-Asaba Expressway now wearing a new look.
