The Board of Trustees of the Urhobo Leadership Forum, Abuja, has commended Senator Ede Dafinone for what it described as pragmatic leadership and effective representation of Delta Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
The Board, led by its Chairman, Ambassador Brownson Dede, said the senator has distinguished himself as a committed and accessible representative whose contributions in the Red Chamber continue to advance the collective interests of the Urhobo nation.
In a statement issued after a courtesy visit to the senator, the Forum praised Dafinone’s principled stance on critical Urhobo matters and his consistent engagement in legislative processes.
Members of the Board noted that his interventions have reflected courage, responsiveness, and a clear understanding of the development priorities of his constituency.
Among the achievements highlighted was Senator Dafinone’s role in facilitating the release of the Ovie of Ewu, an intervention the Forum described as timely and courageous.
The Board also commended his open-door policy and regular engagement with constituents through initiatives such as his Meet-and-Greet forums, which they said have strengthened trust and accessibility.
The Urhobo leaders called on prominent sons and daughters of Urhobo land to rally behind the senator at all levels, stressing that unity and sustained support are crucial for achieving long-term development across Urhobo communities.
During the engagement, the Board briefed Senator Dafinone on plans for a proposed Urhobo National Summit, aimed at drawing national attention to the development needs and strategic importance of Urhobo land.
They also sought his support for an amendment to the law establishing the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, to broaden its academic mandate beyond petroleum-related disciplines.
Responding, Senator Dafinone expressed appreciation to the delegation, which included Olorogun Peter Igho, Professor Vremudia Diejomaoh, and Okakuro Bright Igbako.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the progress of the Urhobo nation and supporting initiatives that promote education, infrastructure, and economic growth.
The senator disclosed that discussions also focused on the revitalisation of the Sapele Port, which he identified as a critical economic asset for the region.
He revealed that funding for the first phase of the port’s rehabilitation has been secured in the 2025 national budget through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
According to him, the project underscores his resolve to pursue sustainable development initiatives that will unlock economic opportunities and improve livelihoods across Urhobo land.
