The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has announced the provision of free market shops to traders operating along the Ughelli Main Market road.

The new shops are located at GRA, behind the Baptist Church in Ughelli, and will be offered free of charge for six months.

This decision follows a recent security meeting involving all relevant agencies, aimed at resolving the recurring disputes between Otor-Iwhreko and Ekiugbo communities over market rights.

The meeting, held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the Chairman’s residence, culminated in a joint communiqué advocating for immediate measures to address the crisis.

In line with the recommendations, the council, under the leadership of Olorogun Jaro Egbo in collaboration with his friends, acquire plots of land at the GRA for the relocation of traders currently occupying the roads and walkways.

This move is expected to alleviate road obstruction and enhance public safety.

During a meeting held today, 3rd December, with provision and rice traders operating illegally along Omotor roaRoadd the main market road, Olorogun Jaro Egbo emphasized the urgency of the relocation.

He noted that indiscriminate trading and illegal parking of lorries by rice dealers have caused significant traffic disruptions in the area.

Looking to the future, Olorogun Jaro Egbo assured traders that plans are underway for the construction of new market shops within the main market.

These shops aim to provide a permanent solution and better accommodation for traders.

The council chairman appealed to the people of Ughelli North, particularly the traders, to cooperate fully with the relocation efforts, emphasizing that the initiative is crucial for the growth and development of the local government.

This move is seen as a proactive step toward maintaining peace, improving market accessibility, and fostering development in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
