The Ughelli North Local Government Peace and Security Committee has announced the appointment of a five-member caretaker committee to oversee the administration of Ofuoma Community, following a court injunction that stopped the community election earlier scheduled for 22 November 2025.
In a government announcement dated 19 November 2025, the committee explained that the injunction prevented both the state and local government authorities from conducting the polls.
With the tenure of the incumbent president and his executive council now expired, the committee said it had become necessary to put an interim leadership structure in place.
The newly appointed caretaker members are: Lucky Emojevu – Chairman, Ohworumu Stephen – Member, Irivie Jackson – Member, Mrs Mercy Egbogborase-Etago – Member, and Barr. Joseph Ekete (Ubu Rep.) – Secretary.
According to the announcement, the appointments were made after consultations with key stakeholders in Ofuoma and the wider Ughelli community.
The committee stressed that rising tensions in the area made the interim arrangement essential to prevent a breakdown of public order.
Residents dissatisfied with the caretaker appointments were urged to seek legal redress rather than resort to actions that could heighten unrest.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the LGA.
The outgoing executive was directed to immediately hand over all community documents and property to the newly constituted caretaker leadership.
The statement was issued and signed by Pastor Goodluck Irikefe Unuavworho on behalf of the Ughelli North Local Government Peace and Security Committee.
