The Chairman of Udu Local Government, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Oghior community following the escalation of communal unrest in the area.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Henry Ubus, Oyibode announced that the curfew takes effect from Tuesday and will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Condemning the destruction of property and arson reported in the community, the council chairman directed security agencies deployed to the area to apprehend and deal decisively with anyone found in possession of illegal weapons or engaged in activities capable of further disrupting public peace.
Oyibode said the curfew became necessary to prevent a worsening of the crisis and to restore law and order, stressing that his administration is fully committed to protecting lives and property across the local government.
He warned that criminal elements would not be allowed to plunge Oghior community or any part of Udu into chaos.
The chairman urged residents to remain calm, comply with the curfew order, and cooperate with security operatives on duty.
He further assured the public that the Udu Local Government Council, working with relevant security agencies, will continue to monitor the situation until peace and normalcy are fully restored.
