U.S. President Donald Trump says he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin next Friday in Alaska to discuss ending Moscow’s full-scale war in Ukraine.

Trump announced the meeting on social media, with Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov confirming the details via Russian state news agency TASS.

The planned summit could be pivotal in a conflict that began more than three years ago with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths.

However, with Moscow’s maximalist demands, there is no guarantee of a breakthrough.

Speaking to reporters before confirming the date and venue online, Trump hinted that a possible agreement might involve “some swapping of territories,” but did not elaborate.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted on Telegram that the country’s Constitution already answers the territorial question:

“No one will deviate from this – and no one will be able to. Ukrainians will not gift their land to the occupier.”

Zelenskyy stressed that peace must be “dignified” and enduring.

“This war must be brought to an end – and Russia must end it,” he said. “We are ready to work together with President Trump and all our partners for real and, most importantly, lasting peace — one that will not collapse because of Moscow’s desires.”
