Motorists in Warri and Effurun of Delta State have called on the state government to direct the State Ministry of Transport and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency, DESTMA to urgently fix dysfunctional traffic lights to ease vehicular movements in the twin cities.
NewsNet which monitored the functionality of the traffic lights at the weekend reports that while some are working many others are out of service.
For some time now, the traffic lights at the popular Enerhen Junction, Enerhen road by Motel, and the one beside Total filling station along Airport road are completely faulty, while the ones at Jakpa Junction and Refinery Junction are partially working.
Road users complained that one of the traffic lights on the Refinery Junction has been out of service for a while leading to confusion at the strategic Junction linking motorists to other parts of the metropolis and beyond.
They added that the dysfunctional traffic lights have led to accidents in some occasions.
While noting that many drivers do not obey traffic lights, the motorists appealed to the relevant government agencies to urgently fix the faulty traffic lights and install new ones in order parts of the cities to help reduce traffic gridlock on the roads.
The motorists also called on the officials of DESTMA to enforce traffic laws in the State particularly in Warri, Effurun and their environs to curtail reckless driving by some motorists.
Traffic lights are designed to help control vehicular traffic in intersections and other roads in major cities.
That informed the decision of successive governments in the state to install traffic lights in major cities of the state.
The presence of Traffic lights no doubt have helped in decongesting vehicular traffics in the twin cities of Warri, Effurun and their environs.
