Vehicular and pedestrian movements on Thursday resumed on the popular Udu bridge in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State after the removal of a petroleum-laden truck which fell on top of the bridge.

The petroleum tanker had on Wednesday fallen on the bridge which traverses Udu and Uvwie Local Government Areas causing heavy traffic gridlock, especially in the evening when most people were making their way to their respective homes.

As the day winded into the night there was apprehension over the likely explosion of the tanker which may result from the scooping of the loaded product by youths of the area.

Many thanks to the security agents stationed at the scene of the incident who helped to forestall a breakdown of law and order until Thursday when the Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Chief Jite Brown, mobilised a gigantic crane to remove the petroleum tanker.

Motorists and other road users heaved a big sigh of relief after the removal of the tanker which paved the way for the resuscitation of economic activities which was crippled for several hours the tanker was on the bridge.

They commended Chief Brown for coming to the aid of the Udu people and prayed God to continually bless him.

Speaking with newsmen, the Vice Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Mrs Eloho Awinoron said that Chief Jite Brown places a high priority on the welfare of the Udu people.

Mrs Awinoron thanked security agents and firefighters who were on ground in case of any eventuality.

She disclosed that the tanker has been taken to the Ovwian Aladja Police Station while the owner of the tanker will be made to repair the handrails damaged by the tanker.
