Tinubu wins APC presidential ticket with 1271 votes

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has won the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the 2023 general elections.

The former Lagos State Governor and national leader of the APC scored 1271 votes to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.

Tinubu was trailed in the contest by immediate past Minister of Transportation, Mr Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who polled 316 votes and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who scored 235 votes.

Votes of other contestants were Senator Ahmed Lawan 152, Yahaya Bello 47, Ben Ayade 37, David Umahi 38, Ahmed Sani 4, Tunde Bakare 0, Rochas Okorocha 0, Jack Rich Tein 0, Ogbonnaya Onu 1, Ikeobasi Mokelu 0 and 13 void

A total of 2322 delegates voted at the special national convention of the party held at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Out of the 23 presidential aspirants cleared by the APC, only 14 of them participated in the primary.

Before delegates began voting, six aspirants stepped down for Tinubu.

Those who stepped down for Tinubu were Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State; Senator Godswill Akpabio; Professor Ajayi Borroffice; Mr Dimeji Bankole; Senator Ibikunle Amosun; and Mrs Uju Ohanenye.

Born 29 March 1952, Tinubu has been the national leader of APC since its formation in 2013.
