The ward-to-ward campaign of the Delta State governorship and other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Evwreni ward 8 in Ughelli North Local Government was held on Monday, November 28, 2022, but not without tension enveloping the venue for the campaign.

A dependable source who does not want his name mentioned in print told NewsNet Nigeria that trouble started when the master of ceremony (MC) allegedly refused to recognise a prominent political leader in Evwreni community, Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, who recently defected to PDP.

According to the source, party faithful loyal to Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, who saw the action of the MC as a slap on the face of their leader became angered by the development leading to tension.

Their annoyance it was gathered stemmed from the fact that ‘baby politicians’ were recognized by the MC.

As the crowd of angry youths surged to size the microphone from the MC, well-meaning party leaders pleaded with them to allow the campaign to go on unhindered despite the MC ignoring them when they drew his attention to the serious omission in recognising Alhaji Mumakai Unagha.

The situation was however near calmed when the PDP Delta Central Senatorial District, Chief Ighoyota Amori unknowingly recognised two persons which did not save their protest.

Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, a former presidential aspirant in the 2019 general elections under the banner of the APC is among the prominent leaders of the main opposition party in Delta State that have in recent months decamped to the PDP.
