Chairman of the Association of Primary School Heads of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Delta State Chapter, Comrade Edward Mesere has asserted that teachers are essential stakeholders in the development of any society.

Mesere stated this in Asaba during the 2023 World Teachers’ Day Celebration held at the Cenotaph.

He said that teachers must discharge their responsibility with utmost commitment, adding that they should be focused at all times on moulding the children as future leaders.

Comr. Mesere noted that the significance of the Teachers’ Day celebration was to appreciate the modest contributions of teachers across the world.

The AOPSHON Chairman stated that the day was set aside to showcase the activities of teachers by bringing them together for the purpose of articulating their importance.

While saying that the theme of the celebration anchored on the shortage of teachers, Comr. Mesere stated that the world was in dire need of teachers as a result of the growing population.

Comr. Mesere described  Oborevwori as teachers’ friendly Governor, adding that the governor had shown commitment to the welfare of teachers, especially primary school teachers with the efforts of his administration to pay the pension of primary school teachers and the ongoing recruitment of primary school teachers in the state.

He stressed the need for some of the teachers, when recruited to be posted to riverine areas to cushion the effects of the shortage of teachers in such areas and hinted that primary school teachers were not left out in the sharing of the palliatives for the fuel subsidy removal.

Also speaking, the Education Secretary for Oshimili South Local Education Authority, Mrs. Allanah   Oputa Otutu said that teachers were the people who made the foundation for all professions in the world, emphasizing that the state government had done well for the education system.
