Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called for continued synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government in the state towards building a stronger Delta.
The Governor who made the call on Sunday in Asaba at a thanksgiving service to mark the second year anniversary of the Seventh Delta State House of Assembly assured of his administration’s continued commitment to the development of the state.
The Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori led other Principal Officers, members as well as management and staff of the Assembly to the thanksgiving service, held at the Ibusa road branch of the Living Faith Church, Asaba.
In attendance at the thanksgiving service were the State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Theresa Diai, some members of the National Assembly, the Head of Service, Reginald Bayoko, Chief of Staff Government House, Hon Ovie Agas and other top government functionaries, including Permanent Secretaries, heads of government agencies, commissions and Chairmen of local government councils.
Governor Okowa, while congratulating the Speaker and members for the second anniversary of the seventh Assembly, commended them for their efforts towards peace and good governance of the state.
He said his administration would continue to work closely with the Assembly in moving the state forward as there were still much to be done to raise the standard of living of the people and infrastructures in the state.
Dr Okowa noted that the nation is going through difficult times, maintaining that Delta State is not excluded from all the challenges that come with such a situation.
The governor urged those in authorities to place the interest of the nation above others and to work for greater peace and unity of the country.
He said strength to achieve successes comes from God, and asked the church to continue to pray for the nation as prayers of the church can turn things around for the better.
The Speaker, Sherrif Oborevwori said the House is moving into the third session of the Seventh Assembly with a lot of hope and confidence, hence the decision to commit its activities to the hands of God.
He stated that the House is determined more than ever to continue to improve on its previous performance, and appealed for prayers and understanding from Deltans.
In a sermon entitled “Understanding the wonders of thanksgiving”, Pastor David Popoola, admonished the people to be consistent in their relationship with God as He remains the source of all blessings.
Saying that God is a promise keeper who never deceives or disappoints, Pastor Popoola urged all to live a life of gratitude and to always give thanks to God in all situations.
Some of the celebrating lawmakers in separate interviews, while thanking God for His mercies, said they are faced with more responsibilities as they strive to live up to new standards.
Those who spoke, the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ochor Ochor, Honourables Oboro Preyor, Emeka Nwaobi, Solomon Ighrakpata, Anthony Elekeokori and Ferguson Onwo, promised that the House will not relent in passing bills that would bring about positive changes in the state as well as promote democratic tenets and the rule of law.
Former Deputy Speaker, now Chief of Staff Government House, Rt Hon Ovie Agas and another former member, Hon Talib Tebite, paid glowing tributes to the present state Assembly for the sustained support to the executive in moving the state forward.
They charged the lawmakers to remain focused at all times.
The service featured the cutting of the anniversary cake.
