The son of a Police Inspector in Lagos identified as Damilola Areje has allegedly absconded with a 2019 Mercedes Benz GLE 43, worth 52 million naira and 700 dollars’ worth of Bitcoin belonging to a 32-year-old businesswoman, Nneka Chiemelu, who is into real estate and construction.

According to Miss Chiemelu, Damilola, an acquaintance, allegedly stole her car from her apartment in Lekki Phase 1 and absconded with the money which was paid into his wallet by one of her clients on Friday, July 22, 2022.

It was gathered that all four of Damilola’s phone lines had been switched off and his active Instagram handle deleted since the theft.

Narrating her ordeal amid tears, Chiemelu said that Damilola requested the assistance of 20,000 naira to pay for flyers to promote his business which she promised to give him on the condition that he takes up a site supervision job at her place of work upon completion of the work in order to assist him rather than just hand him the money.

She said upon resumption of work, the suspect requested that he should be allowed to charge his phone in her car which she obliged and went further to explain that while charging his phone in her car, a client who wanted to pay for services rendered offered to pay in cryptocurrency upon which she asked the suspect to receive the payment of 700 dollars into his Bitcoin wallet and he confirmed receipt in her presence and that of her client.

According to Chiemelu, upon request that the money should be transferred to her account by the suspect, he pretended to be having a network problem only for him to later abscond with her 2019 Mercedes Benz GLE 43, worth 52 million naira and 700 dollars worth of Bitcoin.

However, she stated that the matter was promptly reported to a nearby Police station at Maroko where the suspect’s biological father works as a Police officer for further action.
