The Rotary Club of Evwreni has reinforced its commitment to education and maternal health with impactful community service projects carried out on January 28 and 29, 2026, at Afiesere Secondary School, Ughelli North Local Government Area, and Ewu Health Centre in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
At Afiesere Secondary School, students benefited from a career lecture delivered by Rtn. Amos-Ohwo Glory, PhD, who challenged them to approach education with purpose, discipline, and long-term vision.
Speaking during the session, Rtn. Amos-Ohwo emphasised the importance of informed career choices, urging students to align their passions with societal needs.
“Career decisions should not be driven by trends or peer pressure but by self-discovery, competence, and a clear understanding of how you can add value to society,” she said.
She further encouraged the students to see education as a lifelong tool for relevance, noting that “success belongs to those who prepare early and remain adaptable in a changing world.”
The lecture sparked active participation from students, who engaged in discussions on career pathways, academic excellence, and personal development.
Meanwhile, at Ewu Health Centre, the Rotary Club of Evwreni distributed delivery kits to pregnant mothers as part of efforts to promote safe childbirth and reduce preventable maternal and neonatal risks.
President of the Rotary Club of Evwreni, Rtn. Atare Ufuoma Steven, described the intervention as a practical response to the challenges faced by expectant mothers in rural communities.
“This project is about dignity, safety, and support for mothers at a critical stage of life. No woman should be exposed to avoidable risks during childbirth because of lack of basic delivery materials,” he stated.
He added that Rotary would continue to prioritise health-focused initiatives that directly impact vulnerable groups.
The projects were implemented under the leadership of Rtn. Atare Ufuoma Steven, with Rtn. Samuel Adjogbe AKS, Rtn. Clementina Ejabefio (Club Project Chair), Rtn. Glory Amos-Okwo (Sergeant-at-Arms), Rtn. Fidelis Adjogbe (Vice President), Rtn. Augusta Onoguohwofe (Secretary), Rtn. Famous Amrophe (Club Administrator), Rtn. Becky OkeOghene George(Polio Chair), Rtn. Pigah Ofogbor, Rtn. Emmanuel Tobi Ediri, Rtn. Isaac Abasikpongke alongside other club members, donors, and supporters.
Community leaders and beneficiaries commended the Rotary Club of Evwreni for addressing both educational development and maternal health needs, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
