The five-day Delta State Youth Wing Camp 2024 of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has ended in Warri, with a call on the youths in the state to join the organisation in reaching out to society’s most vulnerable.

The organisation’s volunteers from across the 25 local government areas of Delta State were camped at Nana Model College, Warri in Warri South Local Government Area.

The convergence of volunteers from the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch, and other sister organisations for the Youth Wing Camp 2024 at Nana Model College, Warri, was significant and unique.

The camp, which used to be an annual event, had not been held in the state for the past ten years.

It was a follow-up to the International Youth Camp which took place at Owa-Alero in August 2024, with the theme ‘Resilience In Action’.

During the camping, participants drawn from Divisions of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch were trained in various skills acquisition, first aid, leadership and disaster management.

Declaring the camp open, the Branch Capacity Development Adviser, Trainer Cyril Nwachukwu, who stood in for the Delta State Branch chairman urged the volunteers to take seriously every aspect of the training programme to imbibe the resilience needed to carry on with the activities for the Red Cross Society.

The Branch Secretary, and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch, Charles Arinomor disclosed that camping the youths apart from sharing ideas would review activities for the outgoing year.

Instructor Daniel Moriah, who is the Chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch Trainers Council and the Wing Chairman in Warri South, Daniel Amojima noted that volunteerism is key to humanitarian existence urging youths in the state to come on board the organisation to make their impact felt in reaching to the vulnerable in society.

Some of the volunteers expressed delight with the hosting of this year’s camp which they say has positively impacted their attitude of resilience in the service to humanity.

Volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Delta State Branch are currently assisting those affected by the 2024 flooding in some parts of Delta State through the support of the European Commission on Humanitarian Aide.
