The people of Mosogar Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area in Delta State on Monday staged a peaceful protest against the Union of the College of Education, Mosogar over what they termed as the Union’s undue meddling in the appointments made by the institution’s Governing Council especially as it relates to the appointment of son and daughters of the kingdom as Principal Officers.

The people of the kingdom in their protest slammed the Union for opposing the Governing Council appointment of an indigene as the substantive Registrar of the College despite meeting the needed requirements.

College of Education Mosogar formally Delta State College of Physical Education was established by the administration of former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori and was converted to its present status by the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.

The protesting indigenes of Mosogar Kingdom comprising the Oguedion of Mosogar Kingdom led by the Ugo, Chief Freeborn Nana, leadership of Mosogar Development Union (MDU) with Chief Ogheneovo Akporokah, the Eghweyas and youths marched through major roads in the kingdom down to the institution’s main gate with placards with different insricptions to regsiter their dipleasure over the marginalisation of the kingdom’s son and daughters by the Union of the College.

The protesters noted that since the establishment of the College twenty-one years ago, efforts by the institution’s Governing Council to appointment an indigene as Principal Officer have been frustrated by the Union.

They wondered why the Union will again be challenging the appointment of an indigene as the substantive Registrar of the College of Education Mosogar despite being qualified and meeting other requirements to occupy the position.

They appealed for the status quo to be maintained on the appointment of substantive Registrar of the College for peace to reign in the institution.

The protesting Mosogar indigene noted that the Governing Council remains the only statutory government body saddled with the responsibility of appointing a Registrar and has diligently performed the task without blemish.
