Spontaneous jubilation on Friday erupted in Udu Local Government Local Government Area following the Supreme Court affirmation of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the duly elected governor of Delta State.

Leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the area, were joined by other teeming supporters in an overwhelming excitement in demonstrating their joy over the apex court verdict which they say has put an end to the long-drawn legal battle to truncate the mandate entrusted to him by majority of Deltans in the Saturday, March 18, 2023, governorship election.

It had been bated breadth since Tuesday, January 9, 2023, when the Supreme Court reserved judgment in the appeals challenging the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi and Ken Pela of the Labour Party (LP).

The apprehension and various permutations on the possible outcome at the Supreme Court were doused before noon on Friday when a five-member panel of Justices of the apex court affirmed the governorship victory of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori after resolving all the issues raised for determination, against the appellants and held that their respective appeals lacked merit.

The verdict immediately threw the entire Udu Local Government Area into a freezy with shouts of joy from different corners by PDP members and their supporters.

With wild jubilation, it took just thirty minutes before a large crowd besieged the popular Udu Express Junction to celebrate the good news of the Governor’s triumph at the Supreme Court.

The celebration was very entertaining as renowned disc jockey in Delta State, DJ Kaba gave a superlative mix of latest songs spiced with oldies and Urhobo music including a live performance by popular gospel musician, Solo King added glamour.

Vice Chairman of Udu College of Leaders, Chief Moses Odibo, Olorogun Obruche Oghenejiru who spoke on behalf of other leaders in the area said the Supreme Court judgement further attests to the hand of God in the life of Governor Oborvewori adding that the coast is now clear for him to settle down to deliver his MORE agenda.

At Udu Express Junction some women were cooking the popular Ukodo, a delicious Urhobo cuisine at two different ends with two rams indicating that the celebration may spill into the night and beyond.
