Ganagana, Oboro, others bow out of Okowa’s cabinet

Some members of the Delta State Executive Council have resigned their appointments to vie for elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

Their resignation from the cabinet of the incumbent state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa is in compliance with section 84 (12) of the electoral act 2022, which provides that “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election”.

NewsNet Nigeria gathered that some of Okowa’s commissioners who have so far tendered their resignation letters and have already purchased the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms or consulting party delegates for the primaries elections scheduled in May 2022, are Basil Ganagana, Evelyn Oboro, Christian Onogba, Julius Egbedi, Ovie Oghoore, Jonathan Ukodhiko and Chika Ossai.

The affected appointees, their hitherto ministries, local government areas and positions vying for are below:

1. Rt Hon Basil Ganagana, Commissioner for Transport, Patani Local Government Area, Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

2. Evelyn Oboro, Commissioner of Water Resources Development, Uvwie Local Government Area, Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

3. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Commissioner for Energy, Isoko North Local Government Area, Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

4. Christian Onogba, Commissioner for Environment, Ethiope West Local Government Area, Ethiope West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

5. Chika Ossai, Commissioner for Primary Education, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Ndokwa East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

6. Julius Egbedi, Commissioner Agriculture & Natural Resources, Sapele Local Government Area, Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

7. Ovie Oghoore, Commissioner for Project Monitoring & Audit, Isoko North Local Government Area, Isoko North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.
