The winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has received his certificate of return.

The national working committee (NWC) of the party handed Atiku the certificate on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

The former vice-president scored 371 votes to clinch the party’s ticket to represent the party in the 2023 general elections.

PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, before issuing Atiku the certificate of return described the former vice-president as “the man of today and tomorrow”, adding that he is Nigeria’s next president.

Ayu noted that there is no victor and loser in the contest as it is the party that won.

In his remarks, Atiku commended the party for being impartial in the conduct of the presidential primary adding that the party members must work together to win the 2023 presidency.

Atiku Abubakar had defeated twelve other contestants on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at the PDP Special National Convention which was held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, his closest challenger, polled 237 votes, while ex-senate president, Bukola Sarakicame third with 70 votes, followed by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel with 38 votes.
