A paediatrician, Chiamaka Ogbonnaya has been arrested by the Police in Edo State for alleged assault and battering of her housemaid.
Dr Ogbonnaya, who works with the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Irrua in Edo state is being accused of brutalising the girl frequently with a mopping stick, turning stick cane and any other objects her hand can reach.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Edo Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, said Dr Ogbonnaya was arrested by the Irrua Division on the alleged offences of child abuse and battering.
The case according the police image-maker is currently is being handled by the Deputy Commissioner of police in charge of Investigation.
The abused tanager is said to be a student of junior secondary school two.
