Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has said that the news of the passing of elder statesman, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark left him and many others with a deep sense of loss and sorrow.

The Speaker in a thought-provoking message at the resumed plenary session of the State House of Assembly, Tuesday, paid glowing tribute to the late Chief EK Clark, who he described as an iconic leader.

He said, “Distinguished colleagues, it is with a heavy heart full of pains that I bring to your attention the demise of our renowned elder statesman and foremost National Leader Chief (Dr.) Senator Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, CFR, CON.

“According to his family, Chief E.K. Clark passed away on Monday, 17th February 2025.

“Pa E.K Clark was an enigma and iconoclast. He was a prominent advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta region.

“He was like a book full of many chapters for every one of us. He was a fiery environmental sustainability advocate who spoke truth to power,” Guwor stated.

The Speaker in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Nkem Nwaeke, recalled the remarkable journey of Chief Clark, from his early days as a student leader to his distinguished career in public service, saying “It was a testament to his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and the advancement of the society”.

Guwor maintained that Chief Clark played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s narrative and promoting national unity, particularly in his days as Federal Commissioner for Information.

He stated further that the late Chief Clark‘s wisdom, courage, and vision inspired generations of Nigerians, and that his legacy will continue to inspire many as they strive to build a better future for themselves and their children.

The Speaker condoled the entire Ijaw nation, noting that the outpouring of love and support from across the globe brings comfort and solace during this difficult time.

“May the soul of our beloved Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to work towards a more just, equitable, and united Nigeria,” Guwor stated.
