Otulu community in Delta accuses DSP Idowu of assisting Francis Oduwanor to evade justice, petitions PSC

The Otulu Ogwashi-Uku community in Delta State has petitioned one Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunday Idowu to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission alleging that he has been actively aiding and abetting Mr Francis Oduwanor Odiakose (aka) Medolunwa a fugitive from justice to cause problems in their community, wage intercommunal war and escape from justice.

In a petition sighted by our correspondent, the gazetted and legally recognised traditional Chief of Otulu Ogwashi-Uku located in Aniocha South Local Government in Delta State, Chief Anthony Enurah alleged that DSP Sunday Idowu has been assisting the fugitive Francis Oduwanor Odiakose by authoring repeated petitions against members of his community instead of arresting him to face justice for several criminal cases he has pending in the state. He claims that DSP Idowu Sunday is aware that Francis Oduwanor Odiakose unilaterally and illegally declared himself a traditional ruler of our community and rushed to DSP Sunday Idowu for protection.

Mr Francis Oduwanor was declared wanted by the courts for outstanding court warrants based on his failure to appear for cases of terrorism, illegal possession of firearms and attempted murder.

Findings show that DSP Idowu has refused to arrest him and bring him to face his charges.

Meanwhile, the said Chief said that despite the letter from the office of the Attorney General of Delta State to return Francis Oduwanor to face his charges, DSP Sunday Idowu has refused to arrest him.

According to Chief Anthony Enurah, ‘Francis Oduwanor has been boasting within our community that he paid DSP Sunday Idowu of SEB (FCID) thirty-five (35)million Naira so he can get immunity from all his crimes.

“This money came from the proceeds of vast amounts of land illegally sold in our community,” he added.

“We understand that DSP Idowu Sunday has invited some Police officers from Delta State to his office and threatened them that he has the mandate of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Akali Baba to inform them not to arrest Mr Francis Oduwanor or any of his gang members for whatever crimes whatsoever.

“He claims that IGP Usman Akali Baba said that all investigations of Francis Oduwanor or any of his gang members will be handled solely by himself (DSP Sunday Idowu) and his team and even if it takes 10 years, they must not arrest anyone.’

“The actions of DSP Idowu Sunday have created a terrible atmosphere within our community as the gang members of Francis Oduwanor move about freely within the community with guns and openly threaten community members. Recently, they robbed a POS merchant and left him almost dead after he refused to give them the proceeds from his daily legitimate business sales. Just last night, these people were shooting sporadically in our community and threatening community members,” he said.

According to the Chief, “We wish to request that DSP Idowu Sunday be investigated for aiding criminality. He shouldn’t be permitted to be aiding a wanted suspect to keep repeatedly writing and authoring petitions with the sole aim of keeping the criminal investigations of Francis Oduwanor in his SEB -FCID office while preventing him from being taken into custody for trial for the numerous charges he is facing in Delta State. These charges once again include but are not limited to, Conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, impersonation etc.”
