OPEN LETTER TO RT HON. NICHOLAS MUTU REPRESENTING BOMADI/PATANI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY IN THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SINCE 1999 TO DATE

Dear Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu,

As a concerned citizen and a constituent, I am writing to respectfully advise you to consider relinquishing your seat in parliament as we count down to the 2027 election circle. In the whole of Delta State, you are the only lawmaker still serving since 1999.

While I appreciate your prolonged stay in the House of Representatives for over two decades now, your prolonged tenure has raised concerns about stagnation, accountability, and the representation of the people’s interests.

Also, while I equally understand the value of experience and continuity, your decision to sit tight is already perceived as a flagrant disregard and gross abuse of the democratic principles of term limits, fresh perspectives, and the will of the people.

As a lawmaker, you have seen it all and have hobnobbed with all the Presidents of Nigeria, Governors of the country and most especially the Governors of the South-South and particularly that of Delta State since the commencement of the fourth Republic. You have also dinned and winned with all the Principal Officers of the National Assembly and all the members some of which have become Senators, Governors, Ministers and even Ambassadors since your election into the Green Chambers in 1999.

Dear Rt. Hon Mutu, you must not remain in the Green Chambers until death do you part as you can comfortably vie for the Senatorial office, Governor of the state or aspire to be a Minister, Ambassador or even retire from politics and go into business full time. To date, I am fully persuaded that none of your contemporaries in 1999 is still in the National Assembly as they have all moved on.

Therefore, I urge you to prioritize the needs and aspirations of your constituents and consider stepping down to pave the way for new leadership and ideas. This decision would demonstrate your commitment to serving the people and upholding the integrity of the parliamentary system while your name will remain indelible as the longest serving lawmaker ever in Nigeria as you will be serving record 28 years by June 2027.

If you fail to heed this advice, your prolonged stay in parliament would be seen as a power grab with the intention to perpetuate yourself in office. Dear Rt. Honourable, it’s time to prioritize the people’s interests over personal ambition.

Sincerely,

Comrade Perez T. Asuke
