Former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Delta State, Edewor Omonemu, a lawyer, has said that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, is a good choice that will ensure victory for the party in the 2023 general elections.

Oborevwori, who is the incumbent Speaker of the State House of Assembly on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, scored 597 votes from a total of 825 accredited delegates from the 25 local government areas of the state to defeat thirteen other aspirants to win the gubernatorial primary which was held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the state capital.

In a congratulatory message to Oborevwori on his emergence as the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer, Omonemu, who is presently the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Wealth Creations to the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, said he was not surprised by the overwhelming votes of the party’s delegates judging by his wide acceptance and endorsements from PDP leaders and members across the state.

Omonemu said, “The victory of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly at the PDP governorship primary on Wednesday was on merit and very well deserved. During his consultations across the state, he was generally accepted.

“The PDP family in Delta State trust him as the one that can continue and sustain the development initiatives of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. This, the Speaker has clearly demonstrated in his handling of the affairs in the State Legislature in the past five years.

“Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is humble and a grassroots politician who is very familiar and understands the yearnings and aspirations. He is absolutely qualified and fit to take Delta State and Deltans to the next level of development from where Governor Okowa will stop in 2023.”

Omonemu commended the party’s delegates to the governorship primary for putting aside sentiment, blackmails and monetary inducements to vote for the aspirant of their choice.

He also appealed to the generality of Deltans to rally Oborevwori and massively vote for him in the 2023 general elections as he is someone that can hold their mandate in trust.
