Okowa inaugurates 19-man Delta Livestock Management Committee

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has inaugurated a 19-man Livestock Management Committee as part of the provisions of the Delta State Anti-open grazing law passed by the State Assembly and accented to by him.

Okowa on Tuesday while inaugurating Committee at the  Exco Chamber, Government House, Asaba, charged the Committee to ensure effective implementation of the law in the best interest of the people of the state.

He noted that Delta State had been home to many diverse people living peacefully among the people until the influx of criminal elements who have turned the bushes into a den of robbers and kidnappers.

The Governor thanked the State Assembly for adding speed and thoroughness to the passage of the law to regulate livestock management in the state.

He urged the Committee members to work closely with traditional rulers, President-Generals, and other stakeholders to put every process in place to execute the law to the best intent for which it was passed.

The Governor also charged the Committee to embark on serious advocacy to enlighten the people and livestock breeders on the need to obey the law.

Responding, Chairman of the Committee, who is also the state commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr Julius Egbedi thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve, assuring that the Committee will carry out the task in the best interest of the people.

Mr Egbedi stated that the Committee would work towards ensuring harmonious living between farmers and livestock breeders.

Members of the Committee include Mr David Tonwe, Matthew Ossai, Christopher Owho, Otogo Samuel, Julius Omunizua, Dr Charles Diai.

Others are Austine Duru, Jonah Nwigwe,  Victor Duruegbuso, Cletus Bebefaugha, Michael Esegba, Victor Okolie, Erhuvwu Akpoghene, Frank Aghara, Christian Edhughoro, Alhaji Shuwa Adamu, Mr Chuks Acha and Dr Augustine Ojogbo, who will serve as the Committee’s Secretary.
