Okowa commends NDIC for complementing government’s effort in education in Delta

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has applauded the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission (NDIC) for complementing his administration’s effort towards the provision of quality education for students of public schools in the state.

Governor Okowa gave the commendation at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state during the official commissioning of a block of two classrooms each facilitated by an indigene of the community, Ms Diana Okonta and built by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission for Omu Boys Secondary School, Ibusa.

The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu said that the act of generosity displayed by the donor towards the training of the students in the school would enhance the teaching and learning processes and stimulate academic performances among students.

While calling on other corporate organisations and good spirited individuals especially in Ibusa community to emulate the kind gesture of the commission, Senator Okowa lauded the facilitator of the project for her initiative to drive the project to the state and Ibusa community in particular.

The governor, however, advised the principals, teachers and students of Omu Boys Secondary School, Ibusa to put the facility into effective use and shun any form of destruction of facilities in their school.

In her welcome address, the project facilitator, Ms Diana Okonta, said that the construction of the two blocks of classrooms each was part of the corporate social responsibility of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission as a deliberate strategy to give back to society.

She commended the Okowa administration for its inspiring investment in the education sector, adding that despite the fact more needed to be done in the education sector the State Government had done well in education as well as other critical sectors of the economy.

Highpoints of the event included the unveiling of the plague to commission the project by the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Augustine Ede Oghoro and the facilitator of the project, Ms Diana Okonta among other dignitaries.

Others were the presentation of a letter of appreciation to the facilitator by the Director of Science Education, Mrs Kehinde Odherowho, cultural display by the students of Omu Boys Secondary School as well as presentation of books to the State Commissioner for Secondary Education and Omu Boys Secondary School by the representative of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Commission.
